The 14th World Construction Symposium (WCS 2026) was successfully held on 10–11 July 2026 at the Hilton Colombo, Sri Lanka, bringing together researchers, academics, policymakers, and construction industry professionals from around the world to discuss the future of the built environment.
Organised jointly by the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Building Economics and Management Research Unit (BEMRU) of the University of Moratuwa, the symposium has established itself as one of the region’s leading international forums for knowledge sharing and innovation in the construction industry.
The 2026 symposium was held under the theme:
“Towards a Regenerative Built Environment: From Foresight to Action.”
Throughout the two-day event, experts explored a wide range of topics shaping the future of the construction sector, including sustainable construction, digital transformation, Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, facilities management, resilient cities, circular economy principles, project management, and emerging construction technologies.
The symposium also featured keynote speeches by internationally recognised experts, technical paper presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions, providing valuable opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry. Accepted research papers were published in the symposium proceedings, contributing to the advancement of knowledge within the global construction community.
Events such as the World Construction Symposium play a vital role in promoting innovation, sustainability, and collaboration across the built environment sector. They encourage the exchange of ideas and practical solutions that support the development of more resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
